Christmas

1995 Christmas stamps feature stained-glass windows. Two stamps depict images from St Mary's Anglican Church at Merivale, Christchurch with the theme being the Annunciation. Four of the Christmas stamps show the Nativity or the birth of Jesus from the three-lancet windows in The Lady Chapel of St Luke's Anglican Church, Christchurch.

Issue information

The stamp issue included a booklet of ten 40c stamps issued on 9 November 1995. In addition a special miniature sheet was produced for inclusion in a special telephone card/stamp pack that was issued in December 1995.

Due to a postage rate decrease on 2 October 1995 the 45c stamp was reissued as a 40c stamp.

Gabriel - 40c
One of the stained-glass windows in St Mary's Anglican Church at Merivale, Christchurch. The window was designed in 1910 in the studio of the English craftsman and social reformer, William Morris and its theme is the Archangel Gabriel's announcement to Mary that she was to give birth to Jesus.

This stamp was issued on 2 October 1995 to replace the previously issued 45c stamp due to a postage rate decrease.

Booklet Stamp - 40c
The angel featured on this stamp appears on the central panel of a three panel window on the west wall of the Church of St John the Evangelist, Cheviot, North Canterbury. The booklet consisted of ten 40c stamps, all with the same design, and was issued on 9 November 1995.

This souvenir sheet was produced for inclusion in a special pack that incorporated four Telecom Christmas phone cards. Each sheet was individually numbered from 0001 through to 3,000.
