Beautiful fauna stamps with a glow-in-the-dark twist

3 February 2016

New Zealand is home to many unique and unusual creatures, though few can compare to the natural beauty of New Zealand’s native glowworms. New Zealand Post pays tribute to this awe-inducing insect with our latest stamp issue, New Zealand Native Glowworms

This visually stunning stamp issue hides an innovative secret - to replicate the effects of glowworms in their natural habitat, the stamps have had a special glow-in-the-dark ink applied.

“I was thrilled to take on this stamp issue,” said Hannah Stancliffe-White, Visual Communications Specialist at New Zealand Post, “Seeing glowworms in the wild is a breathtaking experience and I wanted to really capture that feeling within this issue. Bringing together Joseph Michael’s photography with glow-in-the-dark ink has allowed us to create a beautiful and unique philatelic product that I'm really proud of.”

Included in the issue is a special presentation pack. The cover of the pack has been die-cut to resemble the mouth of a cave and contains copy written by the Waitomo Caves Museum Society. The premium collectable of the issue is the Limited Edition, which has been produced in limited numbers and contains exclusive stamp collectables as well as copy written by entomologist Rudi Schnitzler.

The issue is available for purchase from 2 March 2016 at New Zealand PostShops. Pre-orders are being taken now through the Whanganui Collectables and Solutions Centre or online at
