New stamp issue takes flight

15 December 2014

2015 marks the 75th anniversary of New Zealand’s national airline, and New Zealand Post is proud to work with Air New Zealand on this commemorative stamp issue.

The stamp issue75 Years – Connecting New Zealand and the World tells the story of how National Airways Corporation (NAC) and Tasman Empire Airways Ltd (TEAL) evolved into Air New Zealand.

Head of Stamps and Coins at New Zealand Post Simon Allison said Air New Zealand and its predecessors TEAL and NAC have long played a vital role in connecting New Zealanders with the rest of the world.

“The stamps tell a story of improving technology and changing times, and of how far modes of travel and communication have changed over the years.

“They depict some of the key milestones of commercial New Zealand aviation over the last 75 years, including the first trans-Tasman flight from Auckland to Sydney in 1940 on the 80c stamp, and Air New Zealand’s new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the $3.00 stamp.”

The stamps were designed by Insight Creative from Wellington. The issue consists of five gummed stamps (80c, $1.40, $2.00, $2.50, $3.00) and includes a set of five gummed stamps, a miniature sheet, a first day cover and a miniature sheet first day cover.

This issue is available for purchase from 14 January 2015 at all New Zealand PostShops and REAL Aotearoa stores. Pre-orders are being taken now through the Whanganui Collectables and Solutions Centre or online at
