Issue information
Founded on 1 October 1949, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. Over the decades, China has made remarkable developments and achievements on social, environmental, technological, economic and international affairs fronts.
To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC, Hongkong Post issues commemorative stamps and a stamp sheetlet to mark this grand moment. The commemorative set contains four stamps all triangular in shape. Together, they form a diamond shape resembling a delicate traditional ruyi knot, which signifies the spirit of unity and warm wishes for wellbeing and harmony. The diamond shape formed by the four stamps on the souvenir sheet also aligns with a stylised number “7” to compose the number “70”, which highlights the theme of the anniversary.
$2 – Society: Inheritance of the Chinese Culture
A golden dragon is illustrated to symbolise the continuity of Chinese culture and showcase its liveliness.
$3.70 – Environment: Emphasis on Going Green
Verdant green leaves are depicted to show the importance our country attaches to the conservation of our environment and a green culture.
$4.90 – Technology: Development of the Internet
Dynamic colourful lines are used to represent the great emphasis our country places on developing high-speed Internet infrastructure.
$5 – Economy and International Affairs: Forging ahead with the Belt and Road Initiative
Ribbon serves as a metaphor for the Belt and Road Initiative which connects the Belt and Road countries, fosters their connectivity and concurrent development, and strengthens their cooperation on the political, economic and cultural fronts.
Festive colours of red and gold are used as the key tones for the $10 stamp sheetlet. The Golden Bauhinia Square stands in the background with the national and regional flags flying side by side, denoting our close ties with the Mainland. The design of the sheetlet also follows the theme of the traditional ruyi knot, which has the same symbolisation as in the four stamps.
In addition, China Post, Hongkong Post and Macao Post and Telecommunications jointly issue a stamp booklet on the same day, where stamp sheetlets issued respectively by the three postal administrations are presented in se-tenant style to showcase the solidarity of the people of the three places and the shared joy in celebrating this special day.
