2010 Rugby World Cup

Since the inaugural Rugby World Cup Tournament in 1987, the world has come together in union every four years to celebrate this spectacular Tournament. In 2011.

Issue information

This range of collectables included two stamp denominations (60 cents and $1.90), a first day cover, a miniature sheet, a miniature sheet first day cover, and a presentation pack – all bearing the image of the distinctive Rugby World Cup 2011 brand.

With the Tournament in Aotearoa, New Zealand, it’s only fitting that the Rugby World Cup 2011 brand had a uniquely New Zealand feel. The stylistic interpretation of the Hammerhead Shark (Mangōpare) and the Fern shoot (Koru) appeared on the first day cover and miniature sheet first day cover. The Mangōpare symbolises strength, determination, strategy and team play, while the Koru reaches towards the light, striving for perfection and encouraging new beginnings. These two powerful symbols combined to convey the idea of the world coming together in union for Rugby’s ultimate Tournament.
